Introduction
Deep mineral exploration requires a method capable of detecting a useful physical-property contrast under the project’s geological and field conditions. Target dimensions, depth, overburden, interference, and survey geometry all influence the observations.
Resistivity/IP, distributed DCIP, and magnetotelluric systems provide different information. They should not be ranked using transmitter power or a single depth specification.
This guide presents eight options for further evaluation. The numbering is editorial presentation order, with Geomative featured first, rather than an independent performance ranking. Equipment purchases and commissioned survey services should be assessed separately.
1. Geomative GD-22 Resistivity and IP System
Core Technology and Configuration
The GD-22 provides six receiving channels for resistivity and induced polarization acquisition. Its current published specifications include maximum transmitter ratings of 15 kW, 1,500 V, and 10 A, with 24-bit A/D conversion and power-line rejection of at least 120 dB.
Actual operation depends on the power source, electrical load, cables, switching equipment, and measurement mode. These ratings do not independently establish investigation depth.
Roll-along acquisition supports extended coverage, while field data review helps operators investigate questionable measurements. Necessary repeat observations remain part of quality control.
DIGspace can support the ERT processing workflow and spatial presentation of results. Buyers should confirm the proposed modules, formats, connectivity, and access to original data.
Application References
Geomative’s Brazil gold exploration case identifies a GD-10 instrument. The Beishan lead-zinc mine case concerns GT-30 transient electromagnetic work. These are method references, rather than direct demonstrations of GD-22 performance.
For a GD-22 proposal, request representative measurements and relevant follow-up evidence from comparable conditions.
2. AGI SuperSting Resistivity/IP Systems
AGI’s SuperSting range includes multiple receiving-channel configurations, including the eight-channel R8. The manufacturer lists resistivity and IP applications involving surface, borehole, and marine measurements with suitable configurations.
Specify the intended electrode layout, IP settings, transmitter arrangement, and processing deliverables when requesting a quotation. Confirm the software and licenses included.
A useful demonstration should follow the planned acquisition sequence and show the transfer of original observations into processing.
3. IRIS Instruments SYSCAL Pro
SYSCAL Pro combines a ten-channel receiver with an internal transmitter for resistivity and chargeability measurements. Full-waveform recording and remote-control functions are available as options.
IRIS provides separate tools for data management, sequence preparation, field display, and remote operation. These roles should be distinguished from inversion software and its licensing.
Compare complete configurations, including switching equipment, cables, power options, and software. Field quality review is relevant regardless of whether subsequent processing is local or online.
4. Zonge Configured IP and Resistivity Systems
Zonge’s published IP instrumentation includes GDP-3224 and ZEN receivers paired with dedicated transmitters and power sources.
The receiver is one component of the survey system. A proposal should identify the transmitter, generator, synchronization arrangements, acquisition geometry, and processing workflow.
Zonge also provides survey services. Buyers should clarify whether the inquiry concerns equipment, field acquisition, interpretation, or a combined scope.
5. ABEM Terrameter LS 2
Guideline Geo’s ABEM Terrameter LS 2 is available in several configurations, including models with up to twelve measurement channels. IP and waveform functions vary by configuration.
Select the model against the required measurement schedule and electrode arrangement. Confirm switching capacity, data access, software, and training in the quotation.
Practical productivity should be assessed using the intended sequence rather than inferred from maximum channel count alone.
6. Phoenix Geophysics MT Systems
Phoenix supplies MTU-5C and related receiver systems for MT and associated acquisition workflows. Its official information describes field diagnostics and live access to recorded time series.
MT uses naturally varying electromagnetic fields to investigate subsurface electrical structure. Transmitter-power comparisons with resistivity/IP equipment are therefore inappropriate for this method.
Evaluate the frequency coverage, sensors, station layout, recording requirements, noise environment, and processing scope. Whether MT contributes useful constraints depends on the target and geological setting.
7. DIAS Geophysical DIAS32
DIAS32 is a distributed DCIP survey system used by DIAS Geophysical for resistivity and IP investigations. The manufacturer describes flexible array design, mesh communications, and real-time quality review.
For procurement, clarify whether the proposed scope is an equipment arrangement or a commissioned survey. Request the acquisition design, current-injection plan, quality procedures, processing deliverables, and responsibilities.
Distributed acquisition can support extensive survey layouts, but usable depth and resolution remain dependent on the target, geometry, and data quality.
8. GF Instruments ARES — Candidate Requiring Current Documentation
ARES is retained from the supplied shortlist as a candidate for further verification. Current manufacturer documentation was not accessible during this review, so no depth category or performance advantage is assigned here.
Before including it in a scored comparison, obtain the exact model’s current datasheet and configuration proposal. Confirm receiving channels, electrode switching, IP functions, transmitter arrangements, software, and support.
Conclusion
Begin with the geological question and the expected physical-property contrast. Then select the method and compare complete systems or survey proposals within a clearly defined scope.
For equipment, assess representative measurements, repeatability, field logistics, data access, processing, and support. For survey services, define coverage, quality control, deliverables, and ownership of original data.
These geophysical options can help prioritize exploration targets. Drilling, sampling, and other appropriate evidence are still required to establish mineralization and support resource evaluation.
